Poem # 252 Presence in the Present…

When I was just a little girl,
I did not appreciate the present;
The future, had mysteries to unfurl,
I was lost in its contemplations!

When I was a young teen,
I did not appreciate the present;
My dreams, geared towards success unseen,
Looking forward to a life, that fulfilled my ascent.

When I was an adult lady,
I did not appreciate the present;
The past beckoned me gladly,
While I was nostalgic, many a moment!

When I was a middle aged woman,
I did not appreciate the present;
Regrets of time lost, or otherwise shunned,
Gladly I voted for my past and future, vetoing today as absent!

Today I am an old woman, no time to waste,
I only have my present;
My future bleak, will probably end in haste,
I realize, that the only thing that matters, is my present!
