Poem #271 Are you happy?

Are you happy?
They ask her
While thinking
She must be
For she is always smiling
Not knowing
That there are a gazillion tears
Trapped behind her sunny smiles…

Are you happy?
They ask her
While thinking
She must be
She always has a kind word to say
Not knowing
She has rarely experienced
The kindness she freely gives today…

Are you happy?
They ask her
While thinking
She must be
For her life is full of exciting news
Not knowing
She would gladly swap
All the wonderful thrills for simple peace…

Are you happy?
They ask her
While thinking
She must be
For she is wild and free
Not knowing
Shrouded in a cage darkness
She is trying hard to break free…

Are you happy?
They ask her
While thinking
She must be
For her life is filled with memorable acts
Not knowing
While her past and present haunts her
These strive to hold her sanity intact…

Are you happy?
They ask her
While thinking
She must be
For she loves unconditionally
Not knowing
A million pieces make her heart
World has left it cracked ruthlessly…

Are you happy?
They ask her
While thinking
She must be
Their mind can’t comprehend her trials
Not knowing
What to say, to avoid further questions
“I am” she lies with a dazzling smile…
