We could have been best friends or even soulmates,
Our likes and thoughts, matched as if set in pace;
Yet, I held me off, from extending a friendly hand,
Let our memories fade, as though etched in sand!
We moved on to live as strangers, living our respective lives,
Locking securely thoughts of each other, deep in our minds;
Out of the blue, suddenly one day, after many a year,
You knocked on my door, with a simple hi, and a happy cheer!
In you, I found an anchor and my much needed calm;
I probably was, to you a distraction from your mundane,
While your presence, rooted deep in my life, and kept me sane!
Then one fateful day, just as fast as you entered my world,
You abandoned me, quickly raising your impenetrable walls;
You chose to fade away, remaining a ghost from my past,
Leaving my heart shattered, all alone at its worst!
Some friendships are meant to be, others are best left alone,
Stirring the muddy pot, only opens a can of worms;
I realize I paid a hefty price, for your friendship in my life,
With no second thought, you fled, deserting me in my strife!
Every moment without you, is now a challenge to survive,
Every breath testing my will power, to let our conversations die;
I wistfully wait, for each woeful day in my life to be,
The day of bliss, when your thoughts cease to haunt me!
