Poem # 202 Etched in our mind…

I used to always ask you, to recall the story of how we met,
As though I needed a refresher, of the moments I could never forget…

You humored me and would talk, about us falling in love,
Distant memories that seem to me, like aeons ago now…

You would try to wake me up early, with a morning kiss,
Greedy for more, I would close my eyes tight to revel in the bliss…

The way you would not want, the traffic light to turn green,
Simply so that you could steal, another sweet kiss from me…

Nights when you suddenly, would visit my house in your car,
To take me out for a drive-by, to count the nights million stars…

How you selflessly gave me, your sporty car to drive,
When I secured a job, and was missing a ride…

When you realized, that I loved to read books,
You braved a midnight book release, no matter how long it took…

These are the moments, I wish were etched in my mind
When I am nostalgic, about the life we left  behind…

I really wish, things had been different for us,
That we poured our love, to make our dreams a success…

Instead we tried to best each other, as daily battles swirled,
As adversaries, we lost our war against the rest of the world…

What mattered to us, was the who, what, when, where and how,
We chose to dwell in our past, and not to live in the now…

We can play the blame game, calling out each others faults,
What matters is that, we weren’t the best suited for this waltz…

Our relationship can now be best described as undefined,
Neither friends nor enemies, nor roommates, nor husband and wife…

Time to close the doors on this, open wide the next chapter,
With new hopes, dreams, love, luck and success for our respective ever after!
