Poem # 106 Skewed Reality

They say, “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder”,
Words I have heard, many a time, since the days I was a kinder.

We were all born equal, yet on some we bestow, the title beautiful and a special status,
Evaluate the rest with ignorant eyes, and in disdain deem them worthless;
The prize to summarize, is that, in our minds, beautiful is perceived superior,
Slim or fat, tall or short, young or old, white or black, when compared, the latter viewed as inferior;
Do we stop our unfounded judgement there, no, most certainly not!
Proceed to create a universal perception, or we haven’t played our worthy part!

We inflict these views on everyone around, dare a voice raise against us loud,
We isolate and stomp it down, discredited and banished it stands alone;
Slowly these views get imbued, into impressionable young minds and old,
Subconsciously the world starts to believe true, the skewed scales you have sold;
Your legacy of lies and askew acuities, grows stronger with each passing generation,
Till the day comes when the victims unite, and protest together as a conglomeration.

So dear friend, as you age, do evaluate, the standards set when you were a kinder,
No matter how right or just you think your stance, our ideals may need a mender.
