When navigating the present, the answers oft lie in the
past,
So how best can we make, all our learning last?
Ancestors left us a rich heritage of literature, art, drama
and philosophy,
What is our legacy for the future, besides chaos and cacophony?
For water and oil, we drilled holes, to the very nadir of the earth’s core,
Pits were dug Oh so deep! to mine the wealth of minerals and
gold;
Population reaching its zenith, with advance of science and
increase in mortality,
Industrial revolution and mass production, helped change the
survival rate for humanity.
Unstoppable now, we decided to broaden our visible horizon,
Sky no longer our ceiling, with our calculated step into
space exploration;
Great wars, fight for land, resources and supremacy caused
many a doom,
Yet we succeeded in our mission, to defy gravity and send
men into space and step on the moon.
While the developed countries, grew steady in their riches
and opportunities,
Their world free to use and abuse, as they flaunted their legendary
democracy;
The third world, was a much different scene, without a
strong leader or a protector,
Their struggles and fight much more basic, like food, medicine,
clothing and shelter.
Today corruption, greed and politics, are the three monsters,
that rule the world,
Disparity based on gender, color, race and religion, are often unfurled;
The struggles of our past, must be mended with much more
than parity,
We fight now, not for rights of equality, but for much
needed equity.
Coming back to the start, the fundamentals where it all
began,
Maybe all these technological advancements, are just a scam;
In the name of inventions for a bright future, we debilitate
our present,
Global warming, hunger and pollution, dominant in our
current.
Rudimentary issues, need to be first tackled as a priority,
To ensure that humans maintain, our so called authority;
While we have this debate, of what’s important and what’s
not,
A curve ball called Covid-19, flew right into our paths.
A mutating virus, with the ability to constantly change,
Our knowledge of science and world challenged, it’s vaccine is
yet to be made;
Majority of the world, is now under a strict and rigid lock down,
Impacting bottom-line of markets, offices, home and towns.
We now adorn our mask and gloves, and look at everything
with new eyes,
Staying in our societal bubbles is vital, to limit the
contagion before everyone dies;
The cities succumb, to people’s pressure and open up in
phases,
Discipline so lax, as people think they will survive all the
rough stages.
Many have lost their livelihood, while many barely survive,
Still they couldn’t complain, for many more have lost their
lives;
Some fortunately, do not exhibit any severe symptoms,
Be thoughtful, for the ones you infect, may end up innocent
victims.
No matter what decisions, based on our age and health we
take,
Social responsibility is a must, as everyone’s lives are at
stake;
It’s our moral duty, to ensure we do not make the situation
worse,
All of us on the same boat, waiting for a cure from this curse.
