I knew, what I wanted, from my companion for life,
I knew for whom, I was willing to carry the banner of a wife;
I knew, I would fall in love, and revel in sheer happiness,
I knew, that our life together, could only be a success.
I knew, I wanted him to care, with a perpetual smile on his face,
I knew, I needed him to know, when I needed an embrace;
I knew, he would know, when to make me laugh,
I knew, he would love my eccentricities, without a scoff.
I knew, we would complement each other and our skill set,
I knew, we would work together, to make the other best;
I knew, we would strive hard, to respect each other always,
I knew, no matter what, we would never fall out of grace.
I knew……
Little did I know, it was all my imagination, he was not my perfect man,
Little did I know, life was busy, laying out its own hostile plans;
Little did I know, our love would fail, leaving us in constant distress,
Little did I know, we would stagnate, into a colossal mess.
Little did I know, your perpetual smile would be replaced by a frown,
Little did I know, between us, only distance would grow;
Little did I know, you would always, look at me and mock,
Little did I know, you would ridicule me, for being odd.
Little did I know, you would highlight my weakness and not my skills,
Little did I know, you barely cared, making it a battle of wills;
Little did I know, all that would remain, for each other was contempt,
Little did I know, that exempt of tact, we would be filled with deep regret.
Little did I know……
