Poem #44 Lesson Learnt

You fought to partner with someone, who was different and complemented you,
Someone to fill in your empty spaces, qualities that for you, were new ;
It takes a person of lot of mettle, to boldly stand up and proudly nurture,
These differences, that enable realise one's true potential in future.

Unfortunately for me, with time, your true colors began to show,
After plucking the feathers that formed my wings, you complained that I no longer flew;
You despise everything that makes me, as it now makes you feel inadequate,
The same qualities that once attracted you to me, now fills you with blighting hate.

You deride that I am good for nothing, and berate me, every chance you get,
Do you know in these actions, it’s your thoughts about yourself that you project?
I understand and pity you, your loneliness and lack of self-confidence,
For, you feel the need to put me down, so that, you no longer feel dense.

If nothing, our life together, has been a constant learning,
Though the price I paid for this, seems too steep and undeserving;
One big lesson that I learnt, when future with you, I tried to build,
Is that, the moment I started to wonder if I deserved better, I did.
